Caroline Larsen
Caroline Larsen is an emerging artist working in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Larsen's body of work explores the perception of space, paint, and surface texture. Over several years she has developed a unique technique for applying paint: her works are created by squeezing undiluted oil paint through a bag outfitted with a serrated stainless steel tip resulting in an exceedingly thick, intricately woven oil painting. Using this piping process she is able to apply ribbons of paint that weave up and over themselves to create images. This process creates an optical illusion and references pointillism. These paintings are part of the new extreme painting movement, as they have an “excess of material ... and cannot be resolved on the computer.” Playing with extreme texture and elements of optical illusion Larsen is able to create juxtaposition between representational and abstract.

Caroline Larsen is an emerging artist from Toronto, Ontario. She has an undergraduate degree from the University of Waterloo and a post graduate degree from the University of Auckland, New Zealand.
Over the last year Larsen has had her work exhibited in the Summer Group Show at the Angell Gallery, Toronto, Ontario, THE.Show.11 at the Cambridge Galleries, Cambridge Ontario, and The Cheaper Show, Vancouver, British Columbia.
